Big projects

If I ever take a while between blog posts, I'm generally doing something big. At the moment, I'm painting our verandah. I've completed most of the front and side, but there's still that much more to go.

I still haven't bleach cleaned the other sides, yet to be painted. But the results are so much nicer, when it's all done. I've used textured paint, so it's covered a multitude of cement sins. Just normal wear and tear. I've spent close to a grand on paint. More than I thought I needed, or wanted to spend.

I consider it an investment however. Which I'll share more about, when I finally get this job finished. It always takes longer than I think!

Now for the rest

  1. Sealing your cement will make it last much longer. It stops or slows mould and fungus, makes cleaning far easier and is aesthetically pleasing too (gosh...you're not selling are you!!). It also is a great stain inhibitor and stops moisture intake too. Looks just great.

    1. You've listed most of the reasons, we chose to seal our verandah with paint. There are a few more, not many, I'll share soon. Like in a few weeks soon, lol. You know how it goes. :)

  2. A big job you have taken Chris but worth it in the end. Sometimes I wish we had a brick home as it is such a huge job painting this old weatherboard gable house. At least there will be no rain until the weekend.

    1. It is a big job, but not as big as painting a house! Now that is a big chore. Are you having yours painted now? In our former weatherboard house, it was due for a paint when we sold. I'm not sure if the new owners, painted it.

Our neighbours were about 15-20 years older than us, and paid to have theirs painted. Luckily they had the income to pay for it. But they said it was a job that had to get done every 10 years. It does prolong the structure, the more you can take care of it.

    2. Chris our house has needed painting for a number of years and I want to pay someone to do it but my husband always says he will do it but I know that won't happen so it is deteriorating unfortunately but what can you do :-)

  3. What a big job, Chris, but it will be worth it to have it sealed and painted and looking great. We really need to get our house washed down and I keep telling myself to hurry up or we'll end up having to get someone in to do it for us! That always costs more. Meg:)

  5. Nice warm colour. Reminds me of the soil in the red centre. You certainly get things done, once you start. I think I'm getting lazy in my old age. Just don't want to start!

  7. The paint job looks fantastic Chris. Love the colour as well. I have a little concrete porch that needs attention such as this. Good luck with the rest of the verandah.

    1. You're fortunate to have a smaller area to deal with. Should be much cheaper in buying supplies. I have a shop I will recommend soon. I buy online, as I found it to be the cheapest.
