Thank you

Thank you for all the kind comments, regarding the passing of our pet cat. There are much less tears now, and acceptance without feeling guilty. Although, the reason I have been absent from my blog of late, is because I have a cold/flu. Actually, we all have it!

During my sabbatical however, I received notification that my former free Photobucket account, is now requesting $400 per annum, to share my photos with third parties - in this case, my blog.

If you see that annoying image from Photobucket, from any post during 2008 - 2014, you now know why. I'm either going to have to upload six years worth of photos (again) to other free photo hosting sites, or consider starting my blog, completely from scratch.

Either task will be an undertaking, better started when I'm well. Have any of you been hit with the same problem, due to Photobuckets recent change in policy?

As far as problems go, these are really minor ones. More an inconvenience than anything else. The passing of time, some rest, laughter and regular cups of warm cocoa, will see us all through.

  1. Chris I haven't saved any blog photos on Photobucket as I usually just save them in a folder on my desktop until I put them in a blog post and then delete the folder. A member from The Home Maker's Forum has had the same issue with Photobucket though and I think there is a lot of angst at the moment in the blogging world about having to pay now.

    1. What was once a free account, suddenly became $400, with no warning. So I can see why people are upset. But it's not just limited to blogging. It also effects countless discussion forums, where members have used photobucket, to share their images.

  2. I hope you feel better soon, Chris. My son has some horrid lurgy at the moment and it's not nice! I don't use Photobucket, I do the same thing that Chel does. Meg:)

    1. Thanks Meg, I hope your son recovers too! At least they're not missing any school, on the holidays. ;)

I keep a copy on my computer of the images too (and a spare backup) but what the photo hosting website allows you to do, is share your images online. The annoying part is having to go through each post and download the same images, just from a different "online" location.

  3. That sounds really annoying Chris, I hope you work something out. I just upload my photos from my laptop or phone, I think they are in google photos, but I don't really know what I'm doing...

    1. I use to upload my images, directly from my computer too. I'm not sure why I stopped. Maybe because photobucket, allowed me to alter my images in really unique ways. So I kept doing it. Not any more though, lol

    1. In case I've caused any confusion, blogger isn't the problem. They're just the innocent third party, I linked some photos, from photogucket.

Photobucket is a separate company from blogger, which suddenly decided to stop allowing third parties, free access to my images. A third party could be any blog hosting service (Wordpress, Blogger, etc) discussion forums or other websites, I've shared my images to.

  5. I hope you all start feeling better. I've always just used my blog host for my photos rather than a site like photobucket so I cant help you. I personally would tear my hair out.

    1. I liked some of the photo editing features, which is why I used an external photo hosting site. They're a little easier to use, than the photo editing program on my computer. Now I'll just have to get more practice using it. ;)

  6. Have no idea what Photobucket actually is, but the charges seem ludicrous. Is this a common Blogger way of dealing with photos? In Wordpress I just upload my photos to the blog as I write and they go into a media library which stays with the blog template. I can re-access a photo from the past at any time. No charge as it's a free blog.

    1. Blogger is just the third party, being blocked from having access to the images, I've stored on photobucket. I can do the same thing on Blogger, that you can do on Wordpress. I just had a preference for the easy photo editing programs they had, so I could fix imperfections like overexposure, etc.

What I think is interesting (in my opinion) is how we take free accounts for granted. Those companies can change the terms and conditions any time they wish - just as photobucket has. I suspect photobucket is in financial strife, which is why they've taken such measures. To go from zero dollars per annum, to $400, is a huge markup, with no other payment structures available. It seems they're desperate for a quick cash flow.
