Meaningful exchanges.

The cooler weather has settled in, recently. Although the daytime temps are still nearing the high 20's (Celsius). This particular change in season, can only mean one thing. The return of the retaining wall project...

Setting up

We were fortunate recently, to remove some volcanic rock, from a local Toowoombarite's yard (hello, Amy). They needed them gone, and we needed rocks. It was the perfect arrangement. We have them roughly stacked for storage, so this is not their final resting place.

David took out a dead, acacia (black wattle) with nothing more than an axe, and some grunt. It had to happen, before we started laying rocks. So now we're ready to get back to work on the wall again. Slow and steady, will get us there.

I was thrilled to receive an invite, to collect the rocks. Because I get to share a part of someone's yard, and they get to share, part of our wall.  I also shared some of my sourdough starter, Griffin, so even our kitchens' have a special affiliation. Thank you Amy (and husband) for thinking of us.

  1. I love a good swap, when we dug up loads of our decking, we gave the top wood to a friend, another had the wooden frame to use as fire wood and the sand went else where to help fill in a garden pond.

    1. So many new places, to re-purpose one structure. That's a good exchange of resources. I bet they were pleased too.

  3. I have two loaves of sourdough rising as I write this, Chris. Griffin is in the blue bowl and Gertrude is in the other bowl. Griffin has a blue shower cap on and Gertrude has a pink one. LOL! Glad you got the stones.

    1. I read about these coloured shower caps, Chel, and had a good chuckle. I had a great Aunty Gertrude and I think this is the perfect name for a sourdough starter. Meg:)

    2. What a perfect pair, Griff and Gerty make. They sound like an old couple, who simply must do everything together, lol. I hope they rose to the occasion for you.

  4. It's so great that you are able to use those rocks, taking something that someone else doesn't want or need and putting it to good use. Then being able to reciprocate with your sourdough starter and all without money exchanging hands. A real win/win! Meg:)

    1. Money can be a handy exchange, but it's lovely to see generosity and consideration, become the currency too. A little something special to remember, when we build our wall.

  5. What a blessing! Having materials at the ready is so motivating, especially in a big project like that. Hopefully you'll make good progress this retaining wall building season!

    1. Definitely a blessing, when you need those materials. It can be a little stressful, sourcing the amounts you need sometimes. So all contributions are extremely welcome. :)

  6. I love these networks! (I just took some cuttings from the pepino you sent me so that it will live on in my new garden) and we are back outside too, doing jobs that we put off in summer. Liz (eight acres)

    1. I'm glad you were able to take some cuttings. Pepinos are one of the easier ones to strike. Here's to getting some of those harder jobs, done before next summer arrives. ;)
