Cubes & costumes

Going green?

In case you didn't know, it's book week in schools and public libraries, all over Australia. It's an opportunity to celebrate all things, books! At Peter's school it was dress-up day, today. Where you could choose to be a favourite character from a book, or just what inspires you.

There are plenty of Minecraft books, to do with the popular gaming series, by Mojang. And this is where Peter's request for a "Creeper" costume, came into being. Did you know a Creeper was an exploding plant? I didn't, until recently.

It looks like a couple of box shapes, put together. But the planning of how big it was going to be, and hours it took to paper mache, then paint - well, it took longer than we thought! Doesn't it always? He loved how it turned out though, and was mobbed at school whenever he had it on. Seems everyone knows exactly what a Creeper is.

Although, I think I would prefer my creeping plants, NOT to explode.

  1. We have world book day here in UK, and love to see the children all dressed up. You made a lovely costume.

    1. Thanks Marlene. It's great to see the tradition of celebrating the significance of books, is universal too. Especially when it's the young ones, just getting started with reading. :)

  2. What a cute outfit, Chris. Book Week used to be such a busy time when I worked in a school library but the children had a lot of fun.

    1. Thanks Chel. Wow, you worked in a school Library. That's great! You've been right in the thick of it, then. Certainly IS a very busy time. But also wonderful to see everyone excited about books.

  3. Such a great costume, Chris. Minecraft is very popular amongst children so I imagine your young "character" was very popular among his classmates. Meg

    1. I couldn't believe HOW popular though, lol. I couldn't walk a few metres (carrying the costume back to class) without students asking me about the Creeper. It was all good fun though. :)

  4. Hi Chris,

Just doing a little catch up with your life happenings since I last visited. I had an unplanned break from blogging once again. Sometimes life happens and all else gets put on the back-burner.

You did a fantastic job with the Creeper costume, I bet Peters friends were just a tad envious. I used to enjoy helping to create costumes for my children when they were at school, such fun!

    1. If you didn't enjoy creating the costumes (as parents) there goes half the fun! It challenges you to find resources, on a budget. The only thing I had to buy for this, was extra PVC glue - as I was running low. Glad you enjoyed making costumes too. :)
