Simple season

Christmas is called the silly season, for a reason. But I'd much rather take it easy though. Which is why I prefer simple Christmas decorations in the house. One of my favourite nooks, has an arrangement of plants, wooden ornaments and a super easy light to install. I purchased a set of LED fairy lights, at OMGosh, for just under $7. They're powered by batteries, so I don't have to worry about positioning them near a power socket. And my clear glass, flower vase, was perfect to house them.

The lights come with an external switch, so I don't waste battery power during the day. Otherwise, it brightens up a dark part of the house, during the night. Safer than a candle too. I actually have an aversion to overstimulating lighting, and (can you believe this) the glitter of tinsel. We still have it in the house for the kids, but it's not my favourite kind of decoration.

A simple light, is much more appealing to me. Do you have a favourite Christmas decoration, you look forward to seeing every year?

  1. I have a 7foot tree, which is the main feature, then just a couple of very small displays, like you Christmas here is very simple, it's all about family together and a lovely meal.

    1. Wow, 7ft, that would almost touch the ceiling! At least at our house, lol. A nice Christmas tree is a wonderful thing though. Enjoy your family time. :)

  2. The little lights in your vase look so pretty, Chris. Simple and beautiful! Our son decorates our tree now; first thing on Dec 1 after breakfast:D I love seeing all the decorations we've collected come out of their box but especially the tiny vintage glass baubles that I bought many years ago for a song. They are so fragile and the most lovely colours of red, silver, gold, pink and green. I love the way they catch the light and shine. Meg:)

    1. Thanks Meg. Great initiative from your son, and trusting him with glass baubles too. Fond memories for everyone to make, at this particular time of the year. Enjoy the big day together, and all the days, leading up. :)

  3. I love twinkly lights. Once the building stage of the yurt is complete I plan on hanging them around the rafters and along the loft edge.

My favourite decoration is getting out our nativity scene. Its not fancy, it's made up of little plastic figures so the boys can pick it up, play with it and talk to us about what it is and what it means. I just love it though.

    1. That sounds like an amazing display for inside your yurt. They have a great selection of battery powered lights nowadays, which use LED. So they don't draw much power, and you don't have to worry about limited power socekts in the house. We have small nativity scene too. One piece though. It always sits on the entry side table. But yours sound lovely, because it can be played with! :)
