As we live on the edge of a developing city though, we have a pick of good trades people, who will travel out to us for a small fee.

You and Dan do a great job, fixing and developing the infrastructure on your land. We've had very few workers do a proper job for what we've hired them to do.

Dan and I would do as much of the gruntwork ourselves as possible, too. It makes economic sense, but also there's a feeling of being hands-on involved in the project. I know this is a big one to check off your to-do lists. So long as you don't have cars driving over it or risk people tripping, the pipes should last a long time on the surface.

I had put off speaking to a plumber forever, and it wasn't until I saw a tank just like ours on sale, that I decided to finally commit to that second tank. Speaking to a professional, made it make sense, how it could all be done. We happened to go with the guy who quoted us, but you don't have to commit to a professional trades person. You could just ask them what they would do, and see if it will be a simple fix, or as complicated as you fear.

When I took that photo of the nearly exploding tank, I was shaking like jelly. I'm surprised it wasn't more blurry, lol. ;)Chris https://www.blogger.com/profile/13715819899708384147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8284944855633609232.post-17471702346668176432016-12-05T11:46:57.395+10:002016-12-05T11:46:57.395+10:00Wow! Our 9000 litre tank beside the house isn't plumbed into the house as we have town water. It was to be for garden watering only (although I do drink it.) Later on, we bought 2 4500 litre tanks which are free-standing on the top of the slope beside the house and they're not even plumbed into the spouting. I used to pump up water into them from the main tank (we got a free pump with it), but I don't even do that now. I fill these 2 with mains water (there's a tap nearby) and then I can use that to water by gravity with a fine spray which puts water into the soil more slowly. If I stand there using mains water and a hose the soil is so compacted the water runs off in no time. These 2 small tanks are connected at the base so they fill evenly, so it was interesting, that bit about drawing water from both tanks at the same time. I may eventually get them connected to the roof, although the only one nearby is the carport roof and only half of it would be suitable.

There are trees nearby (roots!) and the digging, cost and disruption are putting me off ever doing anything.

Awesome, that photo of the water spraying out of the original tank. Bad plumbing job for sure!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8284944855633609232.post-28171465796007754432016-12-05T08:39:39.100+10:002016-12-05T08:39:39.100+10:00You guys are lucky on the hill, to get those cool ...You guys are lucky on the hill, to get those cool breezes.
