New look

With the change of season, it was time to change my blog too. New things added, here and there. Small things. You may not even notice them. They're not really meant to be noticed either. But I mostly wanted to direct you to "Our mission", page, under the header.

It's short and simple, but its something we believe in, and ought to keep remembering. Do you have a mission statement in relation to where you live, or how you live?

  1. I have never thought of having a mission statement, Chris. I heard plenty about that when I was working though. I like your blog changes. I change mine so infrequently that I forget how to do it and I still haven't worked out how to centre my header without overlapping onto the sidebar. LOL!

    1. Whenever I change my blog it takes at least two days! Just because I have to research how to fix the things, I wasn't planning on happening, lol. So I can appreciate not wanting to change things, if its working perfectly fine, as is. ;)

  2. Mmmn! I never thought of having a mission statement. I suppose I should...it would give me a focus, which so often gets lost. I like yours. Trouble is, the Wordpress template I'm using doesn't give me the option (at least I don't think it does), of having another line of text under the main photo header. I will check it out. I would be fearful of changing the template mid-stream (assuming it can be done), in case it caused the whole blog to disappear into the ether!

(Must confess I liked the old photo of you better, but would even prefer to see a together shot of the whole family)

    1. I haven't used Wordpress for years now, so I can't remember how its done. But here's a link I found, which might help:

      http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-add-navigation-menu-in-wordpress-beginners-guide/

I basically have my "pages" (like you have in your side bar) in another column, under my header. So what you're seeing are actually my "pages". I've noticed you have that feature on your blog too, and you've created several pages already. Only its located in your sidebar, instead of under your header. That link could help you move your pages, under your header. But only if you want to change it. Don't feel you have to, if you like things the way they are.

I agree about the two photos, but the new one eventually grew on me. I deliberately overexposed it on my editing program, to get the yellow and blue to match the header colours. I thought it was more unflattering than the previous image. Then I considered its a blog about gardening in the bush, so I'm going to look a tad overexposed sometimes. ;)

I do like the thought of a family picture though. :)

I found writing our mission statement down, helped narrow what we're attempting to achieve, better. Rather than contemplate it through a list of projects, or a hodgepodge of different gardening techniques. Like you said, its easy to get lost. All those other things are important, but they aren't what drives us to do what we do. I'd love to read yours, if you decided to write one.

    2. Thanks for the link...that's a good site. I've bookmarked it. I've discovered that my theme only supports menus in the sidebar like I have them. Maybe I already knew that... and I'd forgotten anyway. So either a complete change of theme...or leave things as they are. I can still do a mission statement though...will have to give it some thought.

    3. I had vague recollections, "free" WP templates had more restrictions on them. If you wanted a better one, you had to pay for it. Maybe they've improved some of their other, free templates over the years though?

Even just thinking about mission statements, can be helpful understanding what we're doing. Do share it on your blog though, if you decide to write it down. :)

  3. Looking great Chris!

I swear I commented on this earlier but my phone must have eaten it....it does that sometimes...

I like how organized it all looks, I have similar thoughts, especially as we start to set up the community garden, but alas mine is growing muddled - a bit like the corner where all the paperwork is dumped. ;)

    xx

    1. Thanks Emma. :) And I think its a really worthwhile activity you're getting involved with, setting up a community hub. So much to do, and sometimes the paperwork has to pile up. I hope you have many eager hands helping in other ways. :)
